Why ‘Lute’
Michel Montaigne, accidental inventor of the literary genre of the personal essay, was awakened each morning by the sounds of a lute player, hired by his father to perform for Michel. Michel was accompanied by this live music from a young age and throughout his day. It was his father’s belief that the way in which we wake is important, and the first sounds we hear matter greatly.1
At Lute, we share this belief. We want our community to ‘wake up’ gently to the sound of music they’ve never heard before, and we want to build a real connection between our listeners and the talented performers around the world sharing their gift.
